There are many different muscle groups in our body. Accordingly, the exercises are also designed to correspond to each muscle group to help the practitioner achieve the desired training results. Please note the muscle groups on the body below to be able to propose the most optimal training plans for yourself!
Diagram of muscle groups on the body
Below is a detailed diagram of muscle groups on the body that you should note:
Neck muscle group – Neck
The neck muscles are very easy to identify, located right at the neck of each person. This muscle group has a fairly small area and is often forgotten during training. The neck muscles are made up of small muscle groups such as Sternohyoid, Omohyoid, Thyrohyoid, and Sternothyroid.
Shoulders or Deltoid
The shoulder muscles are one of the most important muscle groups in the body, located on both sides of our shoulders, and are given a lot of attention during training. For these reasons, when participating in training, fitness experts/trainers will pay special attention to the intensity of training with the shoulder muscles more than other muscle groups, and also remind about the injuries that can occur when strong impacts are applied to the shoulder muscles.
The shoulder muscles include 3 small muscle groups such as the outer shoulder muscles or middle shoulder muscles (Lateral fibers) – the largest and strongest muscle in the shoulder muscle group, the posterior shoulder muscles (Posterior fibers), and the anterior shoulder muscles (Anterior fibers).
Biceps
The biceps muscles are also known as the biceps more commonly known as the mouse, with the English name Biceps. This is one of the most important muscle groups in the body, greatly determining the “beauty” of the body. Normally, men will pay more attention to this muscle group than women, because they contribute to the firmness and strength of men’s arms and shoulders.
The forearm muscle group is also made up of 3 small muscle groups including the external forearm muscle (Brachialis) which is quite long and small; the long head and short head muscles.
The posterior arm muscle group – Triceps
The posterior arm muscle group (Triceps) also known by other names such as triceps, and three-legged muscles, … includes the following corresponding muscle groups: The largest long head; immediately after that is the Medial head located close to the body and a little further away is the Lateral head.
The forearm group – Forearms
The forearm group (Forearms) is a particularly important muscle group in the human body, having a great impact on physical activities and daily life. The forearm muscle extends from the forearm to the palm of the hand, controlling the activities of our limbs.
The forearm muscle group includes muscle groups such as Brachioradialis (located on the inside of the hand group, in the palm of the hand); Flexor Carpi Ulnaris (located on the little finger), and finally Extensor Carpi Ulnaris (located on the opposite side of the two muscle groups above).
Back muscle group – Backs
The back muscle is the muscle that occupies the largest area on the body, and is also the muscle group that contains the smallest muscles, arranged quite complicatedly and intricately. The back muscle includes 4 main muscle groups as follows:
• Trapezius: This muscle is quite large, stretching from the neck to the middle of the back
• Lat (Lat or Latissimus Dorsi): The latissimus consists of 2 large muscles located under the armpit, bordered above by the middle latissimus, above by the traps
• Middle Back: The middle back muscle includes 4 main muscles combined together, forming a relatively large muscle group, located above the latissimus and right next to the trapezius. The middle back muscles include smaller muscles such as the infraspinatus, Teres Minor, Teres Major, and Rhomboid Major.
• Lower back muscles: The lower back muscles are a special part of the back muscles, greatly affecting the strength of the back as well as the whole body. This is also the muscle that connects the upper body and the lower body, including small groups such as the erector spinae and thoracolumbar Fascia.

Chest muscle group – Chest
Among the muscle groups in the body, the chest muscle is the muscle that any practitioner should pay attention to when practicing. This muscle group is located right on our chest and has two groups located symmetrically on both sides. Each side of the chest muscle group includes the upper chest muscle and the lower chest muscle. All of them participate in the exercises or movements you perform every day in daily life or in sports.
Abdominal muscle group – Abs
For those who practice, the abdominal muscle group is no longer a strange name. This is the main muscle group in bodybuilding that is extremely focused on. Some people even spend most of their time doing exercises specifically for the abdominal muscles.
The abdominal muscles include two main groups as follows:
- Six-pack: Also known as the 6-pack because when trained properly, it will mostly give the result of a firm 6-pack – the ideal body of many guys. Other cases will give up to 8 packs, including 6 small packs above (Rectus Abdominis) and 2 long packs below (Tendinous Inscriptions).
- Intercostal muscles: These are two longitudinal muscle groups located right on both sides of the ribs, forming an arch that hugs the abdominal muscles inside. The intercostal muscles include the Serratus Anterior (the smaller group located on the outside) and External Oblique (the larger group located on the inside near the abdominal muscles).
Thigh Muscle Group – Thigh (Glutes, Quads, and Hamstring)
The thigh muscles are also a particularly important muscle group in each of our bodies and are often misunderstood as the muscle group located along the thigh. This is completely wrong because, in reality, the thigh muscles include the glutes, the inner thighs (Hamstring), and the front thighs (Quads). The thigh muscles are also the largest and strongest muscle group in the body, which are especially important in training. Details about the thigh muscles are as follows:
• Glutes: These are two muscle groups located behind the body (right at the buttocks), are round, and include two main muscles: the Glutes medius located above and the larger Gluteus maximus located below
• Quadriceps: Also known as the quadriceps muscle, including 3 main muscles: Vastus medialis (located above the left knee); Rectus femoris (middle thigh muscle group), and Vastus Lateralis (outer thigh muscle group)
• Hamstring: The back thigh muscle also includes 3 muscle groups like the front thigh muscle: Semimembranosus (small muscle and located right near the elbow; Semitendinosus (located on the inside); Biceps femoris (larger muscle, located slightly to the outside).
• In addition, the inner and outer thigh muscles are also composed of a few other small muscles. However, because of their relatively small mass, they are rarely mentioned.
Calves or Calf muscle group
Among the muscle groups in the body, the calf muscle is probably the most familiar muscle to us. The calf muscle (Calves or Calf) includes Gastrocnemius (located on the inside), Peroneus (located on the outside), and Tibialis anterior (located in the front, inside the calf muscle group).
