I’ve spent a long time working out at the gym and have collected lots of memories along the way. I still vividly remember my first days there.
I started going to the gym in my second year of college because I used to be very skinny. My roommate, who was also skinny, introduced me to it. We decided to go together to make a change. Back then, I weighed around 106 pounds and was 1.74 m tall.
Before working out, I tried all kinds of ways to gain weight. The ways to gain weight I read online were: Eat a lot, sleep a lot… But none of them were successful.
My roommate went to the gym before me, and he saw a clear increase in weight, and his body was beautiful and toned. So I also wanted to try it out to see how it went. In the first month, he gained 11 pounds; of course, at that time, he used Mass milk. Later, I found out that it was milk for gym goers to gain weight.
The first workouts are only in my memory; I remember those memories forever. At that time, when I went to the gym, I did every exercise, pretending that I could do it; it was simple. Thinking back, I felt so childish. Gradually, I fell in love with the gym, sticking with it until now, because the gym changed me, so I have such a strong love.

What has the gym changed me and brought me?
Before I started the gym, I was really bored when I looked at myself in the mirror, not to mention other people. It’s like a toothpick stuck in a potato. I hear this sentence often, so it’s quite familiar.
After a month of going to the gym, I gained 9 pounds, bringing my total weight to about 117 pounds. Although I was still skinny, I knew I had chosen the right way to gain weight. Everyone complimented me on getting fat everywhere I went, and the same thing happened when I got home. My mother invested in feeding me more because she saw that I was gaining weight effectively.
Every time I went back to my hometown, my mother bought me a bunch of things to bring to city. And from the second month onwards, I also followed my friend and asked my mother for money to buy a Mass weight gain package. Students don’t have money, and I found Mass milk quite expensive. But it was delicious, and I gained weight, so it was worth it. In the second month, I gained 123 pounds.
At first, my friend and I often joked that we would only gain about 132 pounds. I thought that goal was quite far away.
In the first months, because I gained weight, I was very enthusiastic about going to the gym. But there were times when I quit because I was busy studying and too lazy to exercise.
Until now, when I have been going to the gym for nearly 5 years, my current weight is 163 pounds. Thinking back, I don’t understand how I was able to persevere like that.

How and what made me not give up going to the gym?
Back then, every time I was bored with the gym and wanted to quit, I remembered a status I posted on Facebook when I first started going to the gym, the content of which was “When you want to give up something, remember the reason you started,” and it really gave me more motivation. You can’t stay as skinny as before; you have to try harder.
But thoughts are just thoughts if they don’t turn into action. Every time I prepare to go to the gym, I feel bored. I have a very useful way, which is to have my own idol, my idol is Zyzz. Plus, I watch a lot of gym motivational clips, and after watching them, I want to go to the gym right away. Gradually, it will form a habit that helps me stick with the gym until now.
Weight will increase over time, not all at once
Don’t think that gaining weight is that easy. I have experienced it and found it is not as easy as when you think back. The training is tiring, but the most important thing is still the stuffing diet, training, and eating nonstop. The gym only makes you three parts tired, the remaining seven parts tired because of eating.
Weight will also increase over time, not increase steadily, like gaining weight every month. I have experienced the following weight gain milestones:
In the first month, I gained 11 pounds; in the second month, I gained 7 pounds. After 3 months, I stopped and lost a little weight because I stopped exercising. Then I went back to 126 pounds. Then I stopped for a few months. Then I went back to 130 pounds, then stopped again, then 139 pounds, 142 pounds, 145 pounds, 148 pounds. These weight gain milestones all had a break in time.
Every time I stopped, I had to change my eating and exercise habits. I bought more Mass milk to gain more weight. It was very hard and cost a lot of money on food. When I had completed my goal of 132 pounds, I felt like I was getting smaller and wanted to gain more weight. I kept using the big guys at the gym as my target.

One benefit I find extremely great about the gym is that it changes me, my personality. Like turning me into a different person.
From a shy person, afraid to interact with people, staying in the room all day. Because I was skinny, I was also afraid to move around, afraid to interact, and always felt unconfident in front of others.
Since I got bigger, I have become very confident in front of others, more active. Partly because I got to know many people at the gym, I gradually became more open in talking, and liked to communicate and get to know more.
It is this benefit of the gym that has shown me that life is very meaningful. It is no longer just four walls but the whole world around me. Life is much better now, and from that time on, I have liked to meet and chat with people.
If I were the same as I was before I started going to the gym, I would not be able to accept it. Imagine being an immature young man, shy and timid.
The gym helps me gain a lot of knowledge about health, nutrition, and exercise.
After that time of going to the gym, I also have my own knowledge about nutrition, exercise, and health.
That knowledge is self-learned both in practice and theory. Do you remember the first days when I went to the gym, I didn’t know what to do? What to eat?… But then every day I went online to read and look up knowledge about nutrition, how to calculate calories, protein, what nutrition is good for the gym, how to exercise properly, etc.
Only by knowing a little bit like that can I be confident. At the gym, there are many new people, and when they ask me how to exercise? How to eat? Okay, I can answer everything and help them change. I feel happy.
Since I came to the gym, I have made a lot of friends, and because I am more confident, I have made more friends. It’s great to have friends to go to the gym with. Sometimes I ask for help with weights or chat about daily life. My gym mates also often invite each other to eat and drink. So it’s very fun!
When I wasn’t working out, I was in the gym all day without many friends, no different from someone suffering from depression, losing the meaning of life.

The gym has helped me change myself, become more mature, and stronger in the storms of life.
